Tolerance is accepting people no matter how they look. Accepting other people’s ideas and opinions is a good way to show tolerance. Tolerance is important today because you have to be able to get along with all kinds of people. The author established the theme of tolerance using Scout, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus. All three characters are tolerant.
The character Mrs. Dubose shows no tolerance against anyone but she likes it when you compliment her on her garden and her looks. The Character Jem messes up her garden and as his punishment he has to tell her stories. After he is done telling her the stories, a month later, he learns that she is addicted to morphine and is dying of cancer. She is trying to kick the habit so she dies clean.
Scout is a young girl that tolerates people most of the time. Even though she is a girl she likes to play with boys. She spends most of the time with Jim her big brother. When Jim tells her to play with other girls she tolerates Jim and keeps playing with him. On hr first day of school she wasn’t tolerant. A boy was saying things about Atticus and Scout started beating up the boy.
In a way all three characters are tolerant. People should be tolerant to others and to each other to know how to get along with people. Tolerance is a good way to show someone that you care about them. Finally, tolerance is a thing that everyone should learn.
